{"id":118,"date":"2015-11-28T18:18:09","date_gmt":"2015-11-28T23:18:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/codykirkpatrick.com\/blog\/?p=118"},"modified":"2015-11-28T18:18:45","modified_gmt":"2015-11-28T23:18:45","slug":"throwing-out-the-record-books","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/codykirkpatrick.com\/blog\/throwing-out-the-record-books\/","title":{"rendered":"Throwing out the record books?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve tweeted about that phrase a lot this week.\u00a0 &#8220;It&#8217;s a rivalry game, so throw out the record books!&#8221; and all its variations, in most cases, couldn&#8217;t be further from the truth.<\/p>\n<p>Records of the favored team in rivalry games since 1995 are shown below; lines and results are from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oddsshark.com\" target=\"_blank\">Odds Shark<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Alabama\/Auburn 15-4<\/li>\n<li>Baylor\/TCU 6-3<\/li>\n<li>Clemson\/South Carolina 15-4<\/li>\n<li>Florida\/Florida State 16-3<\/li>\n<li>Georgia\/Georgia Tech 12-7<\/li>\n<li>Indiana\/Purdue 17-2<\/li>\n<li>Michigan\/Ohio State 15-4<\/li>\n<li>Michigan State\/Penn State 11-4<\/li>\n<li>Minnesota\/Wisconsin 17-2<\/li>\n<li>Notre Dame\/USC 14-6<\/li>\n<li>Oklahoma\/Oklahoma State 13-6<\/li>\n<li>UCLA\/USC 13-6<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All games are alphabetical, just so no one gets peeved.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 The favored teams have the worst results in Baylor\/TCU, which may be because they&#8217;ve only played 9 times in those 20 years.\u00a0 For all the others, it is overwhelmingly true &#8212; on average 75 percent of the time &#8212; that the favored team wins.<\/p>\n<p>(Disclaimer: results from this year are not included, since I just decided to do the post today.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll update it between now and next year.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve tweeted about that phrase a lot this week.\u00a0 &#8220;It&#8217;s a rivalry game, so throw out the record books!&#8221; and all its variations, in most cases, couldn&#8217;t be further from the truth.
